Today, there have been a number of phone deception appointments in the Nekomi area, in which the caller poses as a police officer.
Recently, there has been a surge in scam calls in which the caller claims to be a police officer and says, "I suspect you are involved in a crime," and directs the caller to a social networking site or to a video call.
This scam involves showing fake police identification cards or arrest warrants, and tricking people into transferring cash under the guise of "checking the money in your account to clear you of suspicion," etc. Since calls are also made to cell phones, not only the elderly but also younger people are being victimized.
The police will never contact you all using the call feature on social networking sites.
Also, we will never show you a police identification card or arrest warrant on a video call.
Many of these calls use international phone numbers, so be wary of incoming calls from international numbers you don't recognize.
Also, if you have photos or other information about the criminals seen in the video calls, please be proactive and provide this information to the Urayasu Police Station.
We ask for your cooperation in taking measures to avoid being victimized and in providing information for the arrest of the perpetrators.
